If you have a stream or spring on your land you may be able to make a homemade water ram to help irrigate your property.
A water ram, is a pump powered by water. The concept behind it is fairly simple. The pump uses the momentum of the flow of water to pump a small amount of water.
The water ram needs only gravity (no electricity or gas) to run and it will work indefinitely as long as a flow of water is present. So except for the odd adjustment it is fairly low maintenance.
Quality hydraulic rams can be found from $400 to $800, however you should be able to make one for just under $100.
